Athens: Day 2 (What Grace Did and What Grace Ate)

Athens: Day 2 (What Grace Did and What Grace Ate)

So, my dad has this thing with Harley Davidson and he has to visit one wherever he is. So without and address he expected a taxi driver to know where it was. This goes back to make sure if you want to go somewhere that's not well known have an address. It will save you time and money. And to top it off. The shop was setting up for a concert/party that night. Of course my parents being who they are decided to talk to the owner and sure enough he helped us on planning what we were going to do that day. He was kind and got us a taxi for this small little city near the beaches. Unfortunately for us none of the beaches were open because how cold it was, but we were able to hang out around the ocean ( which was more then good enough for us). We decided to walk around the city, which was more of a surburban city then inner city. It was a nice relaxing day, and we even got to shop a little. I don't remember what the area was called, but all I know that it was right near the old Athens Airport ( which is totally run down now). I got really excitied when we got to go inside an Eastern Orthodox Cathedral. I love exploring Cathedrals and looking at how each and everyone is different. It truly is interesting exploring different cultures and religions. Lucky for us we came a week before their easter ( it's a week later in the Orthodox church) and we got to see easter candles being sold in shops. I eventually decided that I was going to ask a shop owner because I was so interested in finding out what these candles meant. The candles are for Good Friday where you walk to the church with your candle lit. Each candle is different and supposed to mean something to the indivual. It truly was interesting.  We ate lunch at a seafood restaurant, that I personally didn't like. It was good, but again taste is different for everyone. We also got coffee, where I found out that I don't like Greek coffee. It wasn't bad, but it was the texture of the coffee that got me ( it was almost like coffee grounds mixed with it). We left the city around 7 and took a tram back. Again, the transportation system was easy to use. When we got back to the main square, in front of parliament building the changing of the guard was happening. As a military brat and having seen many Arlington changing of the guards, this was different and really interesting. I was amazed at how in sync they were, even with their feet and legs straight in the air. The changing of the guard occurs every hour, and after when it is done you can take photos standing next to them ( you can't talk to them, touch them, or stand under their awning.).  I would truly recommend this to anyone.

Typewriter stools outside of a cafe. I begged to go there.

You can tell she was excited.

Kind of like a brownie, but no chocolate and nutty.
